Food Can Standards

Standards and regulations
To ensure the safety of canned food, manufacturers must comply with standards and regulations set by the regulating bodies in Malaysia.

Quality and safety
In addition to the safety standards set by the regulating bodies, consumers and retailers are encouraged to do their part in ensuring the quality and safety of the canned food they purchase and sell.

Reject any can that looks suspicious, such as badly dented cans, rust and stained labels. This could indicate possible leakage, poor handling or storage conditions.
Canned food should always be stored in a cool, dry place. Use within twelve months of purchase to enjoy flavour and nutrition at their fullest.

Canned food remains sterile until it is opened. Use a clean, sharp can opener. Once opened, refrigerate any leftovers in a clean, non-reactive container.
